The Brief
A full redesign of a spacious villa on the outskirts of The Hague. The client wanted calm, light-filled interiors — timeless rather than fashionable, generous without being showy.
Planning
The villa’s existing floor plan was sensible but dated. We retained the structure while rerouting circulation so that all principal rooms read off a single gallery corridor lit from above by a new rooflight.
Living Room
A custom limestone fireplace anchors the main sitting room. The palette — off-white plaster, natural linen, bleached oak — was chosen to age gracefully and feel comfortable in all seasons.
Kitchen
The kitchen is separated from the living area by a full-height pantry that functions as both storage and acoustic buffer. Surfaces are honed Calacatta marble; handles are recessed, flush with the cabinetry.
Bedrooms
Five bedrooms were rationalised to four, each with its own character. The primary suite occupies the south corner of the first floor with views over the garden. Bespoke upholstered headboards and blackout linen curtains create a hotel-quality sleeping environment.
